Our Supplier Policy outlines the standards and expectations we uphold to ensure that our suppliers align with our values of environmental responsibility, ethical sourcing, and social equity. SLOWOOD Supplier Policy

MUST MEET STANDARDS (All of the following):

  1. Sustainable Packaging: Must utilize zero-waste practices, minimized packaging, and ensure that all packaging is recyclable, reusable, biodegradable, compostable, or made from renewable resources.

  2. Toxins and Hazardous Waste: All products and packaging must be free of toxins or hazardous waste, ensuring safety for consumers and the environment.

SHALL MEET STANDARDS (Some of the following):

  1. Sustainable Products or Materials: Preference for products that are organic, vegan, fair trade, locally/community sourced, made from recycled or upcycled materials, plant-based, or bio-based, use of natural dyes, biodegradable options, circular lifecycle design, low carbon footprint, water-saving and energy-efficient practices, and renewable energy in production processes.

  2. Reducing One-Off Use Plastic: Suppliers should actively seek to minimize or eliminate the use of single-use plastics in their products and packaging, promoting alternatives that are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

  3. Sustainability Commitments: Suppliers should have documented commitments addressing other environmental and social impacts, including the use of renewable energy sources, sustainable supply chain practices, sustainable transportation methods, employee well-being initiatives, paying a living wage, and promoting diversity and inclusion for underrepresented groups.

  4. Sustainable Certifications: Suppliers are encouraged to hold relevant certifications, such as FSC, certified organic, COSMOS certification, fair trade certified, B Corporation Certification, and others that demonstrate commitment to sustainability.

SUPPLIER CODE OF CONDUCT:

  1. Ethical Practices: Suppliers must adhere to high ethical standards in all aspects of their business, including fair labor practices, respect for human rights, and compliance with local laws and regulations.

  2. Labor Standards: Suppliers are expected to provide safe working conditions, fair wages, and reasonable working hours. Child labor and forced labor are strictly prohibited.

  3. Environmental Responsibility: Suppliers must commit to minimizing their environmental impact through sustainable practices, including waste reduction, resource conservation, and pollution prevention.

  4. Anti-Discrimination: Suppliers should promote a diverse and inclusive workplace, free from discrimination based on race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, or any other status.

  5. Transparency and Accountability: Suppliers are required to be transparent about their operations and to report any violations of this code or other sustainability standards promptly.

REVIEWS OR AUDITS:

  1. Regular Surveys and Performance Reviews: Supply chain partners will undergo regular surveys and annual performance reviews to assess compliance with sustainability criteria and gather feedback on sustainable practices. This includes evaluating the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives and identifying areas for continuous improvement.

  2. Certification Inspections: Suppliers may be required to provide documentation for their sustainable certifications for review and verification.

  3. Site Visits: SLOWOOD reserves the right to conduct site visits to supplier facilities to ensure adherence to sustainability practices and standards.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  1. Transparency: Suppliers are expected to maintain transparency regarding their sourcing practices, environmental impacts, and labor conditions.

  2. Innovation and Improvement: Suppliers are encouraged to pursue innovative sustainable practices and technologies to enhance their operations continuously.
