The Perfumer’s Note

"I have a strong attachment to Jasmine that comes from my childhood. In the morning, during the summer holidays, I accompanied my grandmother who went to "pick the Flower", an expression that designated Jasmine. These were terraced gardens where the men were absent. The women picked, chatted, laughed and seemed to enjoy being together while their children ran around. The youngest picked with bare arms. Their skin, golden from the caress of the sun, seemed soft to me, drops of sweat beaded from their faces to the openings of their white bodices that revealed the roundness of their breasts when they leaned over the bushes laden with flowers. On the ground, the baskets were filling up. I did not dare to look at them, or distractedly on the fly. The musk of their sweat and the narcotic flower of the Jasmine became entangled and troubled me."
