Description
Chia is an edible seed from the desert plant Salvia hispanica. It grows abundantly in southern Mexico, Ecuador, & Peru. It is a member of the mint family. Chia has a nut-like flavour. When chia seeds come in contact with water, they expand to at least six times their size and form a gel-like consistency. This can be used to replace the egg content in many baking recipes.

Suggested Usage
Chia seeds have an abundance of uses in cooking and baking sweet and savoury foods. Great addition to recipes for bread, crackers, loaves, bliss balls and other baked delights.
As with ground flax seeds, it can be sprinkled ground or whole chia seeds on cereal, in yoghurt or salads. Eat them as a snack or grind and mix them with flour when making muffins or other baked goods. Or mix seeds in water and add lime or lemon juice and sugar to make a drink known in Mexico and Central America as chia fresca.
